Background
I am a PhD student in Sociology, specialising in queer, feminist and food studies. My work is broadly concerned with the relationship between our everyday eating habits, our identities, community formation and social/environmental justice, spanning sociology and the environmental humanities. I have a particular interest in exploring our relationship to the more-than-human and the gendered politics wrapped up in these attitudes. My work thus uses ecofeminism and queer ecology to imagine, and put into practice, sustainable futures.
With a background in queer and feminist theory from my Master's studies (Gender, Sexuality and Culture MA), my PhD explores veganism as a queer practice, rooted in queer/feminist articulations of community economies, pleasure, care and utopia. As such, it navigates the complex position of veganism as both a radical practice and a recently commercialised food trend.
