Background

Kazuto Matsuda is a PhD student in Politics in the School of Social and Political Science at the University of Edinburgh. He specialises in international relations of the Arabian Peninsula and the Gulf region, and their interstate relations with Japan. His PhD research examines the intricacy of interdependence between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states and Japan in the contemporary context.

He holds a Master of Science in International Relations from the University of Edinburgh and a Master of Arts in Gulf Studies from Qatar University, where he was awarded the prestigious Thesis Award and the Graduate Research Award. He previously served as Non-Resident Fellow at the Middle East Council on Global Affairs in Qatar, Researcher and Advisor at the Embassy of Japan in Qatar and Research and Analysis Specialist at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, among other research and diplomatic postings.
