Background
Hazel McArthur is a multilingual and highly educated scholar with extensive work experience across diverse sectors in four different countries, including a prestigious role at the United Nations in Kuwait. Currently, she is pursuing a PhD in Politics at The University of Edinburgh. Her thesis title is "The significance of religions for animal welfare in a multicultural society: An investigation into the relationship between animal welfare and Hinduism, Islam, and Judaism in the United Kingdom". This project explores whether and how religion affects individual and collective attitudes, beliefs, and behaviours from religious communities that are relevant to issues of animal welfare in a multicultural society. The rationale for this research is that animals, and how they are treated and valued by humans, has a direct impact on society.
Hazel’s academic background includes a BA (Hons) degree in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics, and an MSc degree in International Banking, Finance, and Risk Management. Her interdisciplinary education, combined with her extensive international experience, provides her with a distinctive perspective on the intersections of these fields within multicultural settings.
Alongside her studies, Hazel is an exam invigilator at the University of Edinburgh and is also currently studying Italian, her fifth language.
