Professor Sarah Childs, Professor Meryl Kenny and Professor Fiona Mackay from the School of Social and Political Science (SPS) have become founding fellows of the Political Studies Association (PSA).

The PSA is the UK’s leading professional association dedicated to supporting and promoting the study and public understanding of politics. In 2025, to mark its 75th anniversary, the PSA has awarded 12 founding fellowships to academics throughout the UK, including three from SPS.

Professors Childs, Kenny and Mackay, who all work within the Politics and International Relations subject area at SPS, were selected as founding fellows by the PSA’s Executive Committee in recognition of their important contribution to the PSA and to the discipline of political science more broadly. Their role as fellows will be as advisors and champions for the association, discipline and a wider fellowship programme that will be launched later this year.

The PSA formally announced the founding fellows at this year’s 75th anniversary annual conference in Birmingham.
