The CAHSS Recognition Awards recognise outstanding contributions by colleagues from across the College. The peer-awarded scheme gives staff the opportunity to nominate and recognise the people that they work alongside, and to thank them for the difference that they make.
SPS’s award winners and their categories are:
Meryl Kenny, Senior Lecturer in Politics & International Relations and Acting Deputy Head of School, won the Excellence in Leadership Award.
Meryl said: "I’m so grateful to colleagues for their nominations and also thrilled to be in such excellent company. I’m also grateful that these kinds of awards recognise service and leadership in the round, and in more collective and inclusive ways. After a difficult couple of years, it is nice to be able to pause for a moment, and to recognise and appreciate the wonderful work that is being done across SPS and beyond."
Fiona Mackay, Professor of Politics and Interim Dean & Head of School, received the Head of College Award for Exceptional Service.
Fiona said: “Many congratulations indeed to Meryl and Natalie! As Head of School, I’m very proud of all those SPS colleagues who were nominated for these awards by their peers and delighted we had a good show on the day! I’d also like to thank all those staff who took the time to craft nominations. Personally, reading the nominations has been a joy – they’ve been little shots of sunshine popping into your in-box in what have sometimes been difficult days. Service, collegiality and citizenship are often taken for granted - but these are the essential elements that make SPS a community rather than just a place we work. “
Natalie Stroud, Student Support Officer, was Highly Commended in the Dean of Students Award category for her contribution to the student experience.
The awards were handed out by the Head of CAHSS, Professor Dorothy Miell, at a ceremony at the Playfair Library yesterday.
