SPS academics to participate in Festival of Politics

School of Social and Political Science (SPS) academics, Dr Elizabeth Cripps and Dr Jan Eichhorn, are taking part in the Scottish Parliament’s Festival of Politics, which runs from 9 - 11 August.
The Festival of Politics, now in its 19th year, brings together activists, academics and elected representatives from across the political spectrum to draw on their expertise on a range of topical issues, ranging from aviation and sustainability to women of colour in politics.

Dr Cripps, Senior Lecturer in Political Theory at SPS, will use her research on climate justice and ethics to speak at the ‘Urgency of climate change & justice ahead of COP28’ event. The panel will discuss climate justice in vulnerable countries in advance of the COP28 climate conference later this year. Foysol Choudhury MSP, from Holyrood’s Cross-Party Group on Bangladesh, will host. The event is scheduled for 11:45am on Wednesday 9 August.

Dr Eichhorn, Senior Lecturer in Social Policy at SPS, will speak on a panel discussing younger generations’ diminishing faith in politics. Chaired by Jackson Carlaw MSP, former leader of the Scottish Conservatives, the panel will discuss generational differences in political engagement and activism, and explore the consequences for democratic politics. The event, ‘Activism – vote for me’, will take place at 10:45am on Thursday 10 August.
