SPS’ Dr Jamie Allinson has been awarded the Fred Halliday Award, a prize that recognises outstanding mid-career scholars researching the Mediterranean and/or the Middle East.
The award commemorates Irish academic Fred Halliday’s contributions to the field of International Relations and Middle East Studies.
Dr Allinson, a Senior Lecturer in Politics and International Relations at the University of Edinburgh’s School of Social and Political Science, was presented with the award at a ceremony at the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona.
Dr Allinson said: “I am absolutely delighted to receive this award. Fred Halliday was a giant of both International Relations and Middle East studies as well as a huge influence on my own work, so I am truly honoured to receive this award as part of the Barcelona Summer School of the Mediterranean and Middle East.
“I am also enormously thankful to my colleagues and students who make Edinburgh such a great place to research and study the Middle East and IR.”
Dr Allinson teaches Politics and International Relations of the Middle East at the School of Social and Political Science. He is the author of The Age of Counter-Revolution: States and Revolutions in the Middle East(Cambridge University Press, 2022) and The Struggle for the State in Jordan (IB Tauris, 2016), and a member of the Salvage editorial collective.
