Weeping with the Addolorata
24 January 2025
15:00 - 17:00
Venue
Seminar room 1, CMBDescription
This talk is about female devotees to the Addolorata (Our Lady of Sorrows) and the tears shed on Good Friday on the streets of the Old Town of Palermo, Sicily. This weeping has been chastised by Church authorities – accused of being a practice that is overly-sentimental, inauthentic and insincere – and has become a focal point of ecclesiastical efforts to curtail this popular event.
