In a rough and ready way, I want to talk about the ways designers can offer us provocative examples of using/misusing/creating technology in the field in an ethnographic vein. I will talk through a number of student projects that emerged during my time teaching at ArtCenter College of Design, and a couple of my own efforts. I hope this will provide the ground for a conversation about the ways that we ethnographers can include making and deployment of objects in our ethnographic work, whether in the field or as means of knowledge production.
