Munro Lecture: Professor Deborah A. Thomas
Venue
Appleton Tower Lecture Theatre 1Description
'Surrender: The Death of the West, Caribbean World-Building, and the Future of Us All'
In this Munro Lecture, Professor Deborah A. Thomas reflects on how sovereignty can be reimagined amid the spectre of Black death on the plantation, and when new forms of dispossession are continuously rewritten over earlier removals and displacements. Thinking through surrender can provide a way to envision a mode of relational sovereignty that is unanchored to a state and untethered to masculinist notions of revolution and human-ness, and that is instead constituted through iterative practice and grounded in decolonial love and accountability.
The lecture will be followed by a drinks reception - please register on the Eventbrite link below if you plan to attend to assist with catering planning.
