Examining the impact of the UK’s ‘No Recourse to Public Funds’ policy
Description
UK immigration law has created a ‘hostile environment’ by limiting access to public funds for welfare support for key groups of migrants. This seminar brings together multiple speakers to focus on a key policy in this context; No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF). The speakers will draw on their empirical research exploring experience of NRPF and other restricted eligibility for statutory supports in Scotland. Prof Watts-Cobbe’s JRF-funded study offers unique evidence on the scale and depth of disadvantage experienced by these groups in Scotland. Dr Lucy Lowe’s ESRC-funded project (MAMAS) provides insights on experiences of NRPF through a reproductive justice framework to explore migrant women’s experiences of pregnancy and motherhood in Glasgow.
