Description

Abstract

Assessment of dietary intake remains the foundation of nutritional science. Rather than consider intake of individual foods, food groups or nutrients, “diet quality” assessment has recently been used to evaluate the adherence to notional ideals of intake (e.g. food-based dietary guidelines). Recent work alongside Northumbria University’s Healthy Living Lab has evaluated the quality of food and impact of provision in holiday clubs in England before and after Holiday Activity Framework programme and highlights both the positives of these food assistance schemes, as well as the opportunities for future improvement.

The approach of diet quality scoring could also be applied to wider challenges, particularly where complex dietary or menu data needs to be focused on answering simple questions like “Has intervention improved dietary habit?” or “Where can catered offerings be improved?”. This includes supporting the design and monitoring of wider food assistance schemes, including school meal provision.

To join follow the link below and please note that the session will begin at 12.30 with a Q&A about research methods hosted by the FRIED student network and Iain’s talk will start at 13.00.
